We know there is only one Elvis, (or do we?) but for me the best sound a like Elvis is Ral Donner. I remember buying seve-ral(!) of his singles back in the sixties. 'You don't know what you've got(until you lose it)' and Girl of my best friend' and 'I got burned'. I now have a double CD of Ral's songs and also an LP called 'I've been away for a while' which is a tribute to Elvis and Ral even talks like him!
Others in the frame are Conway Twitty, PJ Proby (who I believe did some demos for Elvis) Terry Stafford (Suspicion) and Ronnie McDowell. That reminds me, Joe Dowell had a hit with 'Wooden Heart' in the USA which seems appropriate given his surname! |
