Clothing chain Primark sales are up by 18% as people are choosing to shop at cheaper prices than the normal Mark & Spencers outlets.

I do think M&S are struggling with their food outlets? I think they will sell them off in the near future? I don't shop at M&S, but they do have their loyal customers. Primark do sell some fashionable clothing, and I do buy my clothes there. I also find Tesco and Asda a good place to buy clothes.
Where do you all shop for your clothes? |

I haven't read the report but I thought that (until today) the food section was the most consistent earner for M&S. And it's taken a dip partly because of getting Piers Morgan to do the TV ads (seriously - sales of steak fell 30% in the period his ads ran). |

Primark's sales have risen 21% on increased selling space of 13% in the last year. Like-for-like sales were up 4% last year and the trading update says that they are expected to grow by just 2% this year.
The secret of their success is nothing new - pile it high and sell it cheap (so cheap that you don't wear it and wash it - it's more cost and energy efficient to throw it away) and for as long as they can continue to source their products at next-to-nothing cost then I'm sure that credit-crunch-hit customers will continue to buy.
Since Sainsbury's put clothes into our local store my wife and son have found quite a lot to their liking - not quite as cheap but reasonably well made and they wear well.
M & S food sales have probably fallen because I've stopped buying naughty things there _________________ Ron |
