Don't suppose many on here are interested in steam locomotives but last night's programme about the "Tornado" was fabulous.
I'm going to watch it again but basically, three chaps got an idea in their heads to build a 4-6-2 full size steam locomotive as used on BR from original drawings - from scratch!
18 years and £3m later, it became a reality. A fully operational steam locomotive and all brand new.
It's a real credit to the people involved in it, some tears were shed as the loco moved under it's own steam for the very first time. I'd loved to have been there... with m' hanky.
Nice to know the skills are still (just about) available in this country, albeit the boiler had to be fabricated in Germany.
Fanatstic job. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
