Interested to see the result of this. I did physics for two years at Edinburgh uni for my Chemistry
degree, must admit I need to swot up on my particle physics, I've no idea what breakthroughs there's
been since 1975 !
Looking at photos of the equipment, looks just like a front cover of a Fantastic Four comic circa
1968 - Reed Richards was doing this stuff 40 years ago !
Ha! astrophysicist Steven Hawking is clearly not wealthy - he has bet ONLY 100 dollars that the
mega-experiment will not find a boson, the elusive particle seen as a holy grail of cosmic science!
NOTE: HIGGS BOSON - A theoretical particle which is thought to give matter its mass, known as the
"God particle." First proposed by Peter Higgs of the University of Edinburgh in 1964. |

Hi John.
At the opposite end of the scale, I didn't even do physics to O Level and got 3% in my last school physics exam!
To think that one of my sons is now a science teacher. He must get it from his B.Sc mother.

This morning there was an earthquake in Southern Iran.........I'm sure lots of well qualified Piano Players will come on the Radio to say it's highly unlikey to have been anything to do with their little experiment.... happend at (11:00 GMT )

Once you start messing around with anti-matter, black holes , worm holes , string theroy and other things we shouldn't really mess with ... Time ceases to be linear - so doing something "now" can have an effect yesterday ...or even tomorrow under the right worm-hole conditions. |

Hmmm Rachel, that could explain the rather sudden changes in weather in the last 10 years. Maybe it was man-made after all! |
