Thank you Becky. I haven't been on this board much in the last couple of weeks ever since the sudden cold announcement that The Archers Message Board would be closing with a fortnight's notice. I have been having my say there, signed the online petition, written to the DG and BBC Complaints, posted on the ghastly clunky blogs etc.

It was great for discussing The Archers itself but had morphed into something much bigger. I had been a devotee for only about 3 years but many had been with it for a decade and there have been some very moving stories about how much of a support the members had been to each other in times of great difficulty and distress, especially as it was open 24/7. It had grown into quite a remarkable community and the wit of some on there has been hugely enjoyable. I have laughed a lot and learned a lot on there.

The young Interactive Editor of Radio4 and Radio4Extra Online did not perform well in Roger Bolton's Feedback programme in which he was questioned by two polite but dogged Mustardlanders. Even Roger Bolton tried to get him to say how much would be saved by closing the Board, after all, as he said: "these are licence payers and they pay my salary and yours" but to no avail as he said that his budget could not be made public. His attitude was cold and unapologetic. Interactive he was not!

Many of us have decamped to other boards run on similar lines for a pittance but are not under the umbrella of OUR BBC.

The Hitler spoof is wonderful isn't Becky? Thanks for posting it.

Why on earth not???

I am more and more losing any faith I had in the BBC and that makes me sad.

The Radio 4 board was the first messageboard I ever used and I quickly got to really enjoy using it along with quite a few of the others, when I found them....Smile it's sad to see their demise.

I listened to that edition of Feedback and thought the BBC guy very feeble. They decide on something and just won't budge from their decision, I doubt they have very much experience of life'.

The Radio2 MB was the one I mostly used, but it was haunted by a very unpleasant troll who had learned to stay JUST on the right side to avoid being modded. Twisted Evil

It's been 10 years since I first used the R2 boards (the previous incarnation to the more recently closed ones) and know exactly who you mean Eileen!

They tried to censor a thread because I posted that Chris Evans was to take over the Drivetime show from Johnnie Walker after it had been announced on the R2 webpage. People had been speculating for several days as to who would get the show. It took emails to Feedback and an appearance of one of the Message Board team on the programme to finally admit there was nothing wrong with posting that someone was to take over a show on a message board, and to get the thread reinstated after about 3 weeks!

Indeed, after all it's supposed to be our BBC isn't it? Therefore there shouldn't be any such secrets!
