I read that earlier but this comment really amazed me
"Lesley Douglas, controller of 6 Music, called her a "natural" broadcaster with "a clear passion for music".
It must be a first for Lesley to employ anyone with 'a clear passion for music' - there again it is for 6Music, not R2
Good luck to her - and let's hope she is the first of many 'new faces' who aren't so-called 'celebs'!

After my rant about sports talk, didn't listen today, however met a friend who had to switch off due to DOL remarks about religion. As he (Friend) said, he thought it was an entertaiment programme, not one to remind people of the presenters choice of faith. |

Marginally more edifying I suppose than Goodier's classic 'What's Your Favourite Jam'? or whatever it was!
There's only one man who can do these kind of phone-ins well and put an entertaining spin on them and he lives in Blackheath and used to advertise washing powder! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Hmmm, who could that be then? Well, Ray Moore used to live in Blackheath but it can't be him.......Jimmy Young did some voiceovers for Ariel, but he's otherwise engaged......nope, you've got me there.
Oh, wait....Daz Doorstep Challenge - it's Shane Richie isn't it? Do I win £5? _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Having been listening to Dermot today from the begining of his show-in my opinion he is doing fine-so much better than the regular incumbent (who is about as exciting as a plate of cold cabbage.)
Good work Dermot-keep it up.
Maybe he will get a regular show in the daytime schedules at the next reshuffle. |

*splutters* I'm sorry but Ken has more talent in his little finger than Dermot has in his whole body, O'Leary just dosen't have the right voice for radio.
Do you have something against 'older' presenters? you seem to have it in for Sarah, Terry and Ken and probably other more mature presenters too. |

Wouldn't it be a dull boring old world if we all liked the same dj's/presenters.
Firstly, I have absolutely nothing agains the ol er DJ's /presenters TTS- indeed the likes of Walker, Harris, Gambaccini are great professionals who I have the highest respect for. However the likes of Wogan, Bruce and Kennedy have all had their day-they do nothing for me and in my opinion they should all be shipped out/retired off-they can take Steve Wright with them as leave as well.
Secondly back to Dermot-I thought his interaction with the contestants on today's pop master quiz was absolutely excellent-he seems very comfortable interacting with members of the public. I certainly did not notice any undue hestitancy in his presenting style, in fact quite the reverse.
I think Lesley is certainly testing him out for a regular show on Radio 2 and based on what I have heard so far (as well as some snippets earlier this week) he is doing absolutely fine-the choice of music played seemed somewhat fresher to me than what you normally hear on the mid morning show-ie the very over played restricted playlist.
So well done Dermot keep up the good work. |

I suppose he's been doing that since day one on Radio 2. As I say he's better on TV, driveling on radio makes it sound poor. |

Agree with you about Walker and Gambo, however I would also say that Terry & Ken are also great professionals, Sarah is just Sarah, rather scatty but sort of endearing
Also Ken & Sarah have not reached retirement age yet so it would be unfair to pension them off or ship them out as you put it.
After nearly 40 years with the BBC I think it would be outrageous to simply tell Terry to sling his hook, I know he won't go on forever but surely his 8 million listeners suggest he is still doing something right. |

Well, having been a captive audience for Kermit's show twice this week so far, AFAIC he's not shown enough promise to be let near a daytime microphone again in the near future, even as cover. Alex was much better as stand-in cover, IMHO. The only thing my ears did register was when he played K T Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on Tuesday morning, everything else was just background noise to me. Keep Kermit on Saturdays where he can't do much harm, or transfer him to R1 or 6 Music, please (and take RB with him).
(Incidentally, I've had to edit the above - I did want to type "p.r.i.c.k. my ears up", but the bot changed it to "prat my ears up" - is that meant to be more acceptable? ) _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I've just been over to Digital Spy to have a nose.......I'm so glad he was banned from and subsequently declined to come back to this forum. I don't visit this place very often but it seems as though we're all just having a little light hearted malice free banter here.
Keep up the good work everyone! I told admin when I first joined that this forum would be a better place without him and it seems I was right. |

I think there are a good range of opinions on this forum and hopefully we respect each other most of the time. The tone is certainly a lot better than the old R2 message boards. It's a reference to Gary Bones's regular tendency to pick "camp classics" for the show. I cheekily mentioned it ages ago when I e-mailed them to play a song from "Wicked" by remarking the production team are probably fond of musical theatre. And they played the song! |

Well, he read my anti-Mika e-mail (albeit reluctantly) but he's not really taken off in this slot. And the handover from Wogan was very awkward this morning - the two useless numpties not knowing what to say or when to say it. I'm looking forward to Ken's return. |
